Their are parents that have one child and census figures show it. Parents that have only one child are having them later in life. There are some other reasons also and they include divorce, financial difficulties and more mothers are having to work full-time and fertility issues. There has been some stigma about being an only child. Single children are high achievers and do very well with schoolwork. They tend to be mature, closer to their parents, and are more dependable.
It's important that your child socializes outside of the house. This is very important because they are surrounded by adults and they may not witness the push and shove that other children their age may witness. They also need to know how to share and how to stand up for themselves. They need to realize that they are not the center of attention. You can sign your child up for daycare and visit this a couple of times during the week.
Having an only child means that they don't get all the attention. You need to teach your child that sharing is important to you and saying thank you is really important also. Praise your child when he shares with others. You need to make sure that your child is playing with someone else's toy and that they are going to get it back. You should schedule play dates with children the same age and see how they do. Teaching and sharing are really valuable skills and you will certainly reap many benefits later in life.
